Here is a quick way to get your Amiga emulator up and running in HyperLaunch, or outside of it if you want. This works just fine on its own. This uses WinUAE 2.7.0 and an ugly Module I hacked together. There are better ways of doing this with a nice subwheel, but that is too much work for me as there are plenty of nice frontends for WHDLoad, so I just start the Amiga emulator and automatically load the frontend so you can select your game in there instead. Much easier to update with new games etc. The frontend used is XbENcH as I love that one. Setup: * In HyperHQ, set up a new wheel. Call it "Amiga" with NO SUBWHEEL. Change it to launch HyperLaunch. * Open Quick_Amiga.7z, go into Emulators and copy the Amiga folder to where ever you keep your emulators. We will store the games in here also later so you might not want it on a SSD drive or similar. * Go to where ever you copied it. * Start winuae270.exe and it should start all the way into XbENcH. You will probably get stuck on the "Press Mouse to Continue" since it is unregistered. Thats fine for now. Note: If you only get the kickstart screen, click to F12 and check the harddrives. One should be pointing to the System dir and the other to the Games dir. Make sure the paths match where you extracted it. * Press F12 to enter the configuration. * You probably want to change your Display, so click on that. In the Setting/Native, you can select if it should start Full Screen or Windowed. If you select Full Screen, set its resolution near the top where it says "Fullscreen:". I have it set to "Native" per default. If you selected Windowed, you set it where it says "Windowed:". * You want to configure the game ports as well, so click on "Game ports". As you can see, by default, I have it set to two joysticks so that 2 player games work. That is why you (probably) got stick on "Press Mouse to Continue" when booting it. Also, some games want the joystick in Port 1 and some in Port 2. I do load "joytomouse" at the startup of the Amiga, so you can use the joystick as a mouse, so configuring two joysticks works just fine for this setup. Click "Remap" next to a joystick to set up your keys. This is a bit tricky until you get the hang of it. Start with "Delete all". Double click in the empty space below each setting. It should now change its title to "Input Captured. F12 = Exit". Now you press the button you want to use. * When you are done configuring it, click "Configurations", select "default" and the name at the bottom should say default.uae. Click on "Save". If you screw up your config, you can load the "default - Copy" to get back to my defaults. * You can click "Start" to launch it to verify your settings. Ctrl-leftWin-RightWin does a soft reboot if needed. Close WinUAE by clicking F12 and then "Quit" at the bottom. * Go into Hyperlaunch\Modules and copy the Amiga folder (HyperLaunch\Modules\Amiga) to your HyperLaunch\Modules folder. * Start HyperLaunchHQ. * Select Global / Emulators. Add a new emulator with the green +. Call it Amiga Path: Select winuae270.exe in the folder where you put the emulator. Rom Extensions: empty Module: Select Amiga.ahk GUI Path: empty CLI Parameters: empty Virtual Emulator: Check it! * Select Amiga / Settings. Ahk Method: Internal Skip Checks: Rom and Emu * Select Amiga / Keymapper / AutoHotKey (or you can use any remap software you like. I use AutoHotKey.) (You can also set up your keys in WinUAE but I find that a pain in the ass. Very unintuitive.) Now we need access to a few keys. If you plan on using your keyboard, you can skip this. Keys we need: Tab (to switch between game lists) ESC (To jump back) LShift and RShift (for those pinball games) Space (some games use this) F10 (To exit WHDLoad back to XbENcH). You can probably think of a few more. My list, in "Free Edit Mode", looks like this: 9::Tab g::Tab 0::Esc h::Esc n::LShift m::RShift 5::Space c::Space 1::F10 Meaning, when I hit 1 on my X-Arcade joystick (reprogrammed), it will actually hit F10 and exit WHDLoad back to XbENcH. * You can use the "Commodore Amiga" theme and system intro movie if you want. Just rename them to "Amiga". * You now want some games, right? Thought so. You can get my package of all games (kept updated regulary) here: ftp://ftp:any@grandis.nu/Commodore_Amiga/WHDLoad_Packs/ The ones you might be interested in are Demos_WHDLoad, Games_WHDLoad and Games_WHDLoad_AGA. Also possible "Update Packs". They should go the pre existing folders in your Amiga\Games emulator folder. Either extract them all right into it or pick out the ones you want. The same folders are already created in Amiga\Games, so you'll see where they go. * Now then. You should be able to start it from HyperSpin. Do so. You should now be able to press the mouse button if you configured your game ports correctly. Once in XbENcH, you use TAB to move between Demos, Games and GamesAGA. You'll notice all of them are empty. Press ESC to go to the main menu, then Setup. Go to Launchers. Everything should be preconfigured for you here. Just click on "Update!" on the 3 lists and it will go through all your games. If you add or remove games/demos in the future, you'll have to click "Update!" again. You may change any setting in here if you want. Disable music perhaps?. When finished, go to "Exit Setup" and back into "Launchers". * Registering XbENcH and WHDLoad: To get passed the slow startup of XbENcH and WHDLoad, you should register them. They are both very much still in production and the authors really deserve a few dollars. Also, some games require a registered WHDLoad (like moonstone. It'll just show a black screen in XbENcH if you try and start it). XbENcH: http://www.jimneray.com/xbench.html WHDLoad: http://www.whdload.de/reg.html Once you have the registration keys, you can get them to the Amiga in two ways. 1 - From the PC: Copy WHDLoad.key to Amiga\System\S Copy xbench.key to Amiga\System\Programs\Xbench 2- The old school way via the Amiga! Much cooler. Copy both files to Amiga\Games\Temp on the PC. Start the Amiga and hold DEL to get to the workbench (skips loading XbENcH if you hold DEL during startup). Click Run (bottom left) and Dopus Click in the left field to select it. Click DH1: at the bottom. Go to Temp. You should see the files. Click in the right field to select it. Click DH0: at the bottom. Go into S: Select WHDLoad.key in the left field and click on the Copy button. Click in the right field to select it. Click DH0: (or Parent). Go to Programs / Xbench Click in the left field. Select the xbench.key file and press copy again. See? Much cooler then a lame PC. Now remember that this hardware is some 20 years old. Impressive what we could do eh? * Some hints an tricks: You can hold down the DEL key during the emulator startup and it will go to workbench. Clicking "Run" / "Dopus" will start Directory Opus so you can easely modify and copy files to the left and right =) When playing around in workbench, you might want to use your windows mouse instead of the slow joystick. Simply hit F12 and go to "Game Ports". Select "Port 1" as "Windows Mouse" and hit OK. As long as you do not save it in Configurations, it will only be for this session. The Amiga/Games/Temp dir on your PC corresponds to DH1:Temp in the Amiga. Just hit DH1: in Diropus and you'll see what I mean. If you are registering WHDLoad and XbENcH, the keys go to: DH0:S/WHDLoad.key DH0:Programs/Xbench/xbench.key If a game does not work for some reason, you can hold DEL during the Amiga startup to get to the workbench. Open "Workie" on the workbench and go into Games_WHDLoad. Find the game in here and double click the obvious icon that starts it. You'll probably get an error message that is not shown by XbENcH. The program JoyToMouse is automatically started to allow you to move the mouse when configuring stuff. If you think its too fast or slow, start Workbench by holding DEL during startup. Edit S:Startup-Sequence and near the end you'll see where I load JoyToMouse. The number after it is the speed. I set it to 5 as default but 10 should speed it up fine. (If you are a noob at Amigas, just hit Shell at the bottom right, type: ed s:startup-sequence go to the bottom, change the value, then just try and close the window and it will ask if you want to save. If you click both joystick buttons at the same time, JoyToMouse is terminated. Just restart the emulation to get it running again if you need to configure something in XbENcH after playing a few games, hitting both joystick buttons. This is actually a good thing. I have not had any problems with JoyToMouse, but should you find any, just press both joystick buttons to shut it down. * If you want to play around and modify things, you can just start winuae270.exe outside of HyperLaunch. Hold DEL when it boots to go to workbench. Hit F12 / Controllers, set Port 1 to Windows mouse and off you go. The OS installation is actually a complete ClassicWB ADV version 28 from http://classicwb.abime.net so in theory, if you got a real amiga, you can use the contents of Amiga\System to boot your real amiga. I left all the software in there, so you can play music and do whatever you want =) * You can just copy the whole Amiga/System folder in the emulator to have a backup if you want to modify stuff. In the Amiga emulation, the System folder is DH0: and Games folder is DH1:
